My MUSE | Hannah Moore
Hello everyone,
Olivia here, to introduce you to this week’s MyMUSE: the gorgeous, vibrant and insanely creative Hannah Moore.
Hawke’s Bay born and based, Hannah is making a serious mark on the world of floral design with her recently relaunched business, Sniff Flowers. A long-time lover of fashion, Hannah creates beautiful and boundary-pushing bouquets, table arrangements and floral instillations with a distinct creative edge – merging fashion and floral artistry for an unforgettable sensory experience.
Since opening our doors in Havelock North, Hannah has been curating our in-store floral arrangements, creating stunning works of art week after week. Outside of flowers, Hannah epitomises confident, joyful and innovative style. She loves nothing more than a good shoe, a pop of colour and an unexpected accessory. She’s driven and focused, but also deliciously laid-back. Hilarious and outgoing, gentle and kind. A visionary, an artist and a muse through and through.
I sat down with Hannah, in the gorgeous Hawke’s Bay sun, to talk florals, fashion and fabulous new side hustles.
Hannah, hello! Can you tell me a bit about Sniff, and how you got to where you are today?
Sniff has been in business for about a year now. We’re all about sourcing the freshest and highest quality flowers and foliage, from markets and local growers, to create works of floral art.
I've always loved design, fashion and all things bright, but my love for flowers was quite spontaneous. I fell into the industry while working on the superyachts when asked to do the ordering and styling of flowers for the chartered trips. Once I’d realised how amazing flowers could be, I moved to Sydney to study and train in florals, then moved to Auckland to learn everything I could about the New Zealand markets and industry.
In 2018 I moved home to the Bay and started a flower caravan called Pixie Monroe (it was a 1963 Monroe Pixie van). Then a friend and I opened a smoothie bowl business … I’d always had the idea of flowers and a café together, but the bowls totally took over. We sold the bowls business earlier this year, and I’ve relaunched my floral studio as Sniff Flowers.
What kind of florals do you offer? Do you have a favourite?
We do events, weddings, parties, installations, corporates and luxury bouquets. My clients are really loving preserved flowers at the moment, they’re great for working in unique shapes. Good for pushing the boundaries too. I also love doing big events and installations: you get more creative freedom, and there are so many cool vendors in Hawke’s Bay to work with. We’ve got the Enchanted Ball coming up soon which will be amazing.
What does a day in the life of Hannah Moore look like?
First thing, I walk my giant Burmese Mountain dog Teddy. During the week I usually go to yoga at Alma, or Pilates at Rise Enpoint. After that I get into work – emails, making bouquets, meeting with clients, planning events, ordering stock, colour-matching flowers to bridesmaids dresses … I get deep into the detail! Oh, also, at the moment I’m spending a lot of time unpacking vases and setting up systems for my new side-hustle “A Doozy”.
Can you tell me about your new side hustle?
I’ve actually just taken over some of Miss Frou Frou’s business – all of her vases, candles and votives. Miss Frou Frou has been an iconic luxury styling business in Hawke's Bay for years, and when the opportunity came up, I thought it would be a fab addition to my flower business. I’ll be focusing on packages: flowers and table designs for birthdays, weddings, events and dinner parties. Love a dinner party. I’ll also be offering my collection to be hired by other florists, stylists and clients. It’s really exciting, but there’s so much to do. SO much stock … I’ve done three van loads already and have another two or three to go. Unpacking vases for days.
On top of being a floral wizard, you always look amazing. How would you describe your personal style?
At the moment, everything is oversized. I'm loving the baggy jeans and jackets with a plain tank. I do love dressing up, usually in heels, pants and a top – with a fairly outrageous accessory or two. In my floral work I use a lot of colour – bright pink, lime green, bright purple – but when it comes to style, I tend to wear a lot of black and white, with either a pop of colour or a statement piece. I also have an ongoing shoe obsession. Shoes always fit – so you can’t go wrong buying them. I like to try to find different pieces, and match them with cool shoes or jewellery.
What are you wearing a lot of at the moment?
My Tibi jeans, a recent purchase from MUSE. My Prada Padded Loafers, Alaïa Ballet Flats, and a super oversized denim jacket from The Frankie Shop.
MUSE wishlist?
I’m loving the Rebe basics, the tees, tanks and bucket hat. The new Sophie Bille Brahe jewellery is STUNNING! Also, the Victoria Beckham tee I wore in the shoot might be next.
